What the follow checker tells you

A follow on X goes one way. You can follow someone who doesn't follow you, and they can follow you without you following back. So “does he follow me?” and “do I follow him?” are two separate questions. This checker answers both in one go: one row for each direction, each with a plain Yes or No. When both are yes, the two accounts are mutuals.

It works for any two public accounts, not only yours. Check whether a brand follows a creator, whether two people in your field follow each other, or whether an account you followed ever followed you back. It's the “does follow” check, without logging in or scrolling through anyone's lists.

How to check if someone follows you on X

You can check by hand on X, though it only goes smoothly for your own account:

  1. 01
    Look for "Follows you"

Log in and open their profile. If they follow you, X shows a small "Follows you" label next to their handle. No label means they don't.

  2. 02
    Search their Following list

Open their profile, tap Following, and look for your name. On a big account this means a lot of scrolling.

  3. 03
    Check two other accounts

The label only works for your own account. To see whether two other people follow each other, you'd have to go through both of their Following lists. The checker above answers both directions at once.

Did they unfollow you? X won't say

X sends a notification when someone new follows you, but nothing when someone unfollows. Your follower count drops by one and that's all. If you're wondering whether a particular person still follows you, the only way to know is to check. Put your handle and theirs in the checker: if the row for them following you says No, they don't follow you right now.

Checking is private. The tool reads public follow information from outside any account, so it never logs in as you, never follows or unfollows anyone, and the other person gets no notification.

Mutual follows

When two accounts follow each other, they're mutuals (often shortened to “moots”). Mutuals see each other's posts in their Following feeds, which is why many people care about follow-backs. The checker marks a mutual follow with its own badge, so you can see it at a glance.

Run it from code

Checking many pairs, or building a bot or AI agent that tracks relationships? The same check is one call to the twitr.sh X API. It's paid per call in USDC, with no API key and no signup:

curl -X POST https://twitr.sh/api/tools/x_read \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"resource":"check-follower","source":"nasa","target":"elonmusk"}'
# → HTTP 402 with the exact price; pay with any x402 / MPP wallet and retry

The answer covers both directions: isFollowing is whether the source follows the target, and isFollowedBy is whether the target follows the source. Run it on a schedule to spot unfollows. Agents in Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client can call it as the x_read tool. See the x_read reference, all X tools and pricing.

Questions

How do I check if someone follows me on Twitter?
Enter your username and theirs above. The checker answers both directions: whether you follow them and whether they follow you. On X itself, a "Follows you" label next to their handle on their profile means they follow you.
How can I tell if two people follow each other on X?
Enter both usernames. If each follows the other, the result shows "They follow each other" with a mutual badge. If only one does, it says which one.
Will the person know I checked?
No. The checker only reads public follow information. It doesn't log into any account, doesn't follow anyone, and X doesn't send a notification when someone looks up a follow.
Does X tell you when someone unfollows you?
No. X notifies you about new followers, but not when someone unfollows you. The only way to know is to check, here or on their profile.
What does "Follows you" mean on X?
It's a label X shows on a profile when that account follows you. You only see it while logged in, and only for your own account.
What is a mutual on Twitter?
A mutual is an account that follows you and that you follow back. People often call each other "moots" or "mutuals" when the follow goes both ways.
Can I check private accounts?
Results for private (protected) accounts may be incomplete, because X only shows their follow lists to approved followers. Public accounts work every time.
Why doesn't the result match what I just did?
Results for each pair are cached for 6 hours, so a follow or unfollow made in the last few hours may not show yet. Check again later for the latest answer.
Is this follow checker free?
Yes. You get 3 free checks a day across the twitr.sh free tools, with no login. Cached results don't use a check. Signed-in users can run extra checks for $0.02 each from their twitr.sh balance.
