Twitter Trends Right Now

These are the top topics trending on X (Twitter) worldwide right now, in the order X ranks them. Each trend opens its live search on X. The list refreshes about once an hour, and you don't need an account. Pick a country below to see what's trending there.

What are X (Twitter) trends?

Trends are the topics, names and hashtags that X sees a sudden jump in conversation about. On x.com they appear in the Explore tab and in the “What's happening” box. A trend can be a hashtag, a person, a phrase, a match, a product launch or a news story: anything a lot of people start posting about at the same time.

The list on this page is the trend list X publishes for a location: worldwide here, or a single country on the country pages. It's the same for everyone who looks at it. That makes it different from the For you trends in the X app, which are tailored to each person.

X's trends algorithm looks for topics that are popular now, rather than topics that have been popular for a while or every day. Speed matters more than size. A topic that jumps from almost nothing to thousands of posts in an hour can rank above a topic with far more posts that grows steadily. That's why everyday words rarely trend, while a breaking story, a goal in a big match or a surprise album can trend within minutes.

X also keeps some topics out of trends, such as spam or posts that break its rules. The number 1 spot is simply X's top-ranked trend at the moment the list was read. When X reports how many posts a trend has, the count is shown next to it.

X works out trends separately for each location, measured against what's normal for that place. A topic can be number 1 in Japan and not appear in worldwide trends at all. Language does a lot of the work: trends in Brazil are mostly in Portuguese, in Japan in Japanese and in Turkey in Turkish. Time zones matter too: evening in Tokyo is early morning in New York, so each country's list is busiest at a different time of day. Local news, sport, TV shows and holidays fill the rest.

The worldwide list mixes everything together. It tends to show topics that cross borders, such as global sport, music releases, tech launches and world news, plus whatever is spiking in the busiest countries at that hour. For a local view, open one of the 19 country pages above.

  1. 01
    Join a conversation early

Post while a topic is still climbing, not hours after it peaks, and only when you have something real to add. Dropping a trending hashtag into an unrelated post looks like spam to X's filters and can limit your reach.

  2. 02
    Find ideas for posts

Trends show what people care about today. A trend close to your niche is a ready-made prompt for a post, a thread or a reply.

  3. 03
    Watch news as it breaks

Breaking stories often trend on X before they reach news sites. Open a trend to read the latest posts about it.

  4. 04
    Compare markets

Check the same story across countries before you launch a campaign or schedule a post for a different time zone.

  5. 05
    Spot problems fast

A brand, product or app trending out of nowhere usually means something happened: an outage, a launch or a controversy.

In the X app, trends on the For you tab are personalized from who you follow, what you interact with and where you are. Two people in the same city can see different lists. This page always shows the location list, so it's a neutral view of what a whole country, or the whole world, is talking about. In the app you can turn off personalized trends and choose a location in Explore settings.

Questions

What is trending on Twitter right now?
The list at the top of this page shows the top topics trending on X (Twitter) worldwide right now, ranked by X. Each trend links to its live search on X. Pick a country to see what's trending there instead.
How does X decide what's trending?
X's trends algorithm looks for topics that are popular now, rather than topics that have been popular for a while or every day. A topic that suddenly gets a lot of posts can outrank a bigger topic that grows slowly. X also keeps some topics out of trends, such as spam or posts that break its rules.
Why are Twitter trends different in each country?
X works out trends separately for each location, measured against what's normal there. People in each country post in different languages, follow different news, sport and TV, and are awake at different hours, so each country gets its own list.
How often do X trends update?
On X itself, trends change all the time. This page refreshes each list about once an hour, and the time stamp above the list shows exactly when it was last read.
Why don't I see the same trends in my X app?
Trends on the For you tab in the X app are personalized from who you follow, your interests and your location. This page shows the location list, which is the same for everyone. In the app you can turn off personalized trends and pick a location in Explore settings.
Can I see Twitter trends without an account?
Yes. This page shows X trends for the whole world and 19 countries with no login, sign-up or app.
What is a WOEID?
A WOEID (Where On Earth ID) is a number that identifies a place. X uses WOEIDs to pick which location's trends to return: 1 is worldwide, 23424977 is the United States and 23424975 is the United Kingdom.
Is there an API for X trends?
Yes. POST to https://twitr.sh/api/tools/x_read with resource set to trends and a woeid. The first response is HTTP 402 with the exact price; pay it with any x402 or MPP wallet and retry to get the list. No API key or sign-up is needed.
